TommyJams is an initiative to provide a hassle–free platform to all artists. Music lovers, here is something worth looking forward to as they aim at building a community of artists, venues and fans, where booking and attending concerts in any city across India can be made easy, through a user-friendly web technology.
Startoholics had the opportunity to chat up with – Parth Saxena and Nikhil Kapur, co-founders of this successful and out of the box startup, here’s a short sneak peek of TommyJams.
To Anyone who’s never come across TommyJams, how would you describe it?
Well, according to us, it is a platform that helps to connect music lovers to live concerts or events. Furthermore, it is a transparent, inexpensive platform. But, the most important factor is the technology being used and it is for all age groups.
How do you raise funds?
Two and half years ago we both started with our own savings, that is, almost Rs. 15,000 to 20,000. Right now we are not very much into fundraising, just going forward as it is.
What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?
At present we think there are two hurdles in our way, firstly is doing business in India. Since, we had come up with the idea of TommyJams in Silicon Valley-Stanford University, never thought that the Indian market structure would be this behind and not at all technology friendly. Secondly, attracting people is a major challenge as they are not at all passionate enough to chase any new idea.
Has TommyJams got the feedback and growth you expected since launch?
Yeah, we expected to be where we are at present. But, hard work was much more than what we had thought, as we have put in almost 10-11 months in it. But, the goals ahead are tougher than this. We have just begun.
Who do you see as your target audience?
Artists- who would love all art forms, Venue providers- as it is difficult to imagine live concerts without them and most importantly Fans- who love music, watch live concerts and pays for it (laughs)
How do you differentiate from your competitors?
Well, we feel there are no competitors for us in India as the technology that we use is highly advanced (we come from an engineering background) and have 600 artists in all. The only one of its kind in India!
Have you had any failures and what did you learn from them?
Yes, we did have a fair share of difficulties in our journey so far but they have helped us improve a lot.
How do you promote TommyJams?
We genuinely let our work speak for itself but, we do have a website, which helps our fans contact us and we keep them updated about our latest ventures through it.
Where do you think is the future of Internet Startups?
We feel that keeping pace with the technology these startups do they have a very bright future, because after some time everything will be online. In future there will be big facilitators for everything but, still much is left to be done and they have a long way to go.
What are you most excited about at the moment?
At this moment we are excited about our present venture, ‘Microsoft Accelerator Office’, which will keep us busy till the end of this year.
Where do you see TommyJams after 5 years?
Across the globe (laughs). We want it to be easily accessible to everyone and would love to be able to cater to everyone in search of a unique platform.
This organisation tries to bring forth the upcoming talents. We would love to experience an innovative way in which music lovers are provided with a plethora of options.
Do have a look at their website! TommyJams
