Founded by Sanjay Soni in 2012, Tradetu is an online classified ad marketplace where you can buy, sell, rent or search anything from a needle to a ship. Tradetu lets you interact with more customers and find the best deals on your items by directly communicating with interested buyers or sellers. They claim to help individual people including both buyers and sellers, agents, brokers, dealers, businesses and brands and provide their services 4x faster than any paid advertisement by saving your time, efforts and money.
Sanjay holds holds a B. Tech. degree in Information Technology from a reputed engineering college in Jaipur and has worked for 2-3 start-ups in the past before working on Tradetu.
We got a chance to interview Sanjay and he outlined some significant details about his startup, here it is for you:
Tell us how it all started- where did your vision for Tradetu come from?
People in India are still sceptical about online shopping so we have come up with a platform where we are continuously enhancing our services to build that level of a reliable service. The idea for Tradetu ignited due to my past experiences with my colleagues who sometimes wanted to buy or sell their used cars, bikes, mobile phones, music players, home theatres, real estate properties, flats and other stuff but due to low level of trust on available online services, they often showed tentativeness in engaging in such activities.
How have you sustained your business? What is your revenue model?
Initially it was self funded business and free for all of our clients but then we launched a featured dashboard on our landing page that is generating some good revenue for us as of now.
How does it differentiate from the rest?
We aren’t oblivious to the fact that there are many players working since the last 4-5 years in the classified market but some features that differentiate us from these players are:
i) Our service is social that helps people to easily engage with the target customers in their niche.
ii) Our User Interface is much better than other players and provides better User Experience.
iii) You will find many frauds who claim to provide such services but we have an authentic and reliable platform which allows users to trade with ease and in a hassle-free environment.
iv) We have a classified dashboard where people can get the featured listings.
v) We made our website in such a way that every customer can sell whatever items he possesses. Sometimes people can’t use other available services properly due to some monetizing policies where only paid listings will be on the top and a non-paying customer who really wants to sell his products doesn’t get the desired response.
vi) We have a better listing management and lead management features that will notify the listing owner immediately with proper lead details.
Who do you see as your target audience?
We see everyone as our potential customer as everyone wants to buy, sell or rent something at some point of time. We are helping these people by providing our services and our social and organic tools. We are also helping businesses of any size but right now we are emphasizing on all SMB’s who want to sustain their business by reaching out to a larger target customer base. So in a nutshell, the basic funda is that you get a higher output with minimum investment that directly impacts your revenue in terms of growth.
What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?
Finance creates a critical situation in every start-up like and so on every step we have to take some intricate decisions to ensure that no financial problems will arise until the task is completed. Another hurdle has been in introducing our website and its features to those new customers who have used several other services like Quikr and Olx. But we are doing our best to overcome these problems and are also making our work schedule very hectic and busy. Our development team is working 16 hours a day to enhance the existing features and roll out some new exciting features too.
What’s next on the radar for Tradetu? What more do you wish to include to take it to the next level?
The feedback has been great so far and so the next step would be more business centric to attract more customers for any business running on our platform. We have a motive to save time, cost and efforts of people who are using our website and so have created some goals from the very early stage of Tradetu and we are working very hard to accomplish these goals. We will launch some more features on our website very soon to get more positive response from customers and help them to get more out of this space.
What one piece of advice would you like to give to soon to be startup founders?
Think fast and think ahead and engage more and more customers with your service or products.
