What are you most excited about at the moment?

Launching our new sailing centre at the Grand Hyatt at Bambolim in Goa.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?

Getting good sales resources and lack of clarity on permission for boating.

Has your product got the feedback and growth you expected since launch?

We have received exceptional response on customer satisfaction for all our products on several parameters like safety, quality of instruction, hospitality and we are well known for product customisation and novelty of experience. We have had over 15,000 customers sailing with us over last 4 full seasons and the number is expected to grow to 100,000 in the next 3 season.

Who do you see as your target audience?

It ranges from corporate employees to corporate clients from reward and recognition events to networking and training. On the retail side, from families to children for courses. We also provide Club Membership, Time Share to Certification courses. Partners who work with us range from Travel, Hotels, Events, Banks etc.

Have you had any failures and what did you learn from them?

Yes I have faced set back due to permission for setting up and expanding operations with a delay of over 3 years.

How do you plan to monetize Aquasail?

Scaling different verticals and increasing the capacity of present locations with emphasis on product development and innovation, with a focus on holiday based solutions.

How important is the role of Social Media for success of any startup?

Social media for young companies can be very cost effective for building awareness and promoting your brand and also to some extent is useful for lead generation. But one needs to take a longer term view on its effect from a sales stand point.

What are your plans for promoting Aquasail?

Word of mouth, online and partner tie ups and innovative barters and cross promotion with a very conscious approach to conservative marketing spends.

Do you have any tie-ups?

Several tie ups with travel, hotels, events, banks, loyalty and online companies etc.

What more do you wish to include to take Aquasail to the next level?

Set up outbound sailing holiday destination as a global product and build sailing related sports properties.

Where do you see Aquasail after 5 years?

Market leader in Asia in the areas of training, sailing holidays and events.

Which entrepreneurs do you most admire?

My motivation and philosophy comes from a voluntary youth organisation which I was part of for about 30 years as a volunteer. I see The Sea Cadet Corps as a very successful organisation which started as an idea of using the sea for character building and imbibing a sense of discipline and love for the sea among youth by the founder Padma Shree Goculdas Ahuja. The founders of the organization never focused on garnering profits and the organization has shaped my thinking and passion for the sea.

What one piece of advice would you give to soon to be startup founders?

Plan your cash flow and path for growth and spend a lot of time building leadership within the team. Also listen to the customer and never compromise on the quality of products you are offering as that is the key to success in the long run.
