Founded by Adi Jain, Studycopter is an adaptive learning platform that enables students to ace exams such as the GMAT.  It analyses your performance, compares it with your peers, and highlights the weak areas that you need to improve on. We got into a conversation with Adi to know more about its offerings and what’s in store for the future, here it is for you:

Tell us a bit about your background and the path that ultimately led you towards Studycopter.

I have a degree in Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, where I worked with the core team that piloted Kindle reading devices in higher-ed institutes in the US. When I was going through my Engineering, I realized that whenever you are sitting for an exam, there is a lot of stress and frustration involved. I sat for a GMAT a couple years ago and I encountered such issues when I was constantly searching for a better way of preparing myself but to my despair, I found nothing substantial.   

How does it work?

Students sign up for Studycopter and we guide them through the entire GMAT course till the exam. We offer Study material, Practice questions, Mock tests, Social learning and the icing of the cake is that all this is powered by a proprietary algorithm that actually considers your performance on a day to day basis and gives you feedback on what you need to do next to maximize your scores. It works differently for each and every student and automatically generates a custom study plan based on how the user is performing. The course material is generated primarily from Nova Press – the publishers of bestselling GMAT study material for several years. We also have several talented professional content writers who after taking the GMAT exam, write questions that closely mimic actual test questions.

Has Studycopter got the feedback and growth you expected since launch?

We want to help students to increase their scores and we want them to recommend our platform to others. We are pretty content with the feedback and we have received some invaluable suggestions on the features that we need to change and improve.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?

The biggest hurdle has been to hire competent people and get a team together.

What are your plans for promoting Studycopter? Do you have any tie-ups?

We haven’t really started our marketing operations yet and currently rely mostly on organic ways where users actually recommend the product to others. But we are going to start pushing on online marketing and reaching out to people at places where they hang out.

Do you have any features in the pipeline?

Currently we just have an Android app but we are working to create Studycopter apps across all platforms. We are trying to make our features more adaptable and overhaul our algorithm.

What one piece of advice would you like to give to soon to be startup founders?

One thing that I would like to say is that you can’t build a product in a single day and apart from product development, you have a very critical task of building an audience and a good team. Entrepreneurs should stop building castles in the air and try to get the first customer as soon as possible.

Studycopter was a part of the iLab incubator and went on to raise a seed round from the Batten Foundation. Currently, the startup is based out of New Delhi and has a total of 9 people working on the product. Studycopter also offers a free trial with unlimited access for 7 days from the day of registration.
