What inspired you to start up with Surgerica?

It all started with a personal experience. The lack of information on critical medical procedure estimates compelled us to build a platform where all the relevant information and services can be accessed at an electrifying speed, so that we can take well informed health care decision for our loved ones.

Has Surgerica received the desired feedback since its launch?

During our pilot phase we received a very good response and we opened our website in July. Since then we have witnessed an exponential growth on the user signups, the services taken from our portal and other metrics.

Did you face any obstacle in your path while starting up with Surgerica?

As we deal in delicate data of people’s health and pricing of hospitals, we faced lots of legal issues and it took several days to sort it out. India is yet to see the impact of online medical services which may reduce the time taken to arrive at an important healthcare decision, but we strongly believe that the wave is approaching.

What do you think is the future of technology in medical field?

Technology in the medical field will be next boom. According to a Venture Intelligence report, Healthcare & Life Sciences industry has emerged as the second favourite destination for VC investors, attracting 18 investments worth $98 million during this year.

How does Surgerica connect hospitals and patients in different countries together?

Though we are operational in India only, we will be expanding our Hospital Network to other countries in the coming year. Our IT infrastructure is capable enough to be integrated seamlessly with those providers who meet the government regulations over data security and safety.

How are the records of all patients maintained?

Considering a patient has some disease and has some reports which have to be given to the doctors for an examination, once the patient uploads the report to a particular case, it gets saved on the server. The same report can be used in multiple consultations without uploading the same.

It’s like reports are saved on the cloud which can be shared to multiple hospitals with proper permission control to the patient, to which hospital or doctor he/she wants to share the reports to.

What other facilities are provided to the patients?

Our basic service is authentic information with cost effective treatment plans. Other facility which we offer is online consultation which includes video as well, if a patient is using low bandwidth internet, he/she can connect to doctors in text mode and for others where bandwidth is not a problem, video gives the access to the doctors instantly which removes the harassment of going physically, waiting in queues.

Since the concept behind Surgerica came out of a personal experience, we are attached towards it. Every time we try to figure out the flaws in our system, daily discussion, no time limit on the working, many a times we get disheartened but we keep on doing well towards value addition.

Do you have any new feature in your pipeline?

Technically, there is no end to learning and introducing features. We introduced video consultation which has been built on the concept of peer to peer conference using web-RTC (Real Time Communication), and the things which are in the pipeline are API development for mobile application, for travel companies, insurance companies, other medical tourism companies, hospitals to integrate the service of Surgerica on their websites.

Any advice you wish to give to young beginners?

Whatever your idea is, the first step is to complete MVP for the service delivery, whether you are building a tech platform for service delivery or a product. Once the loop of your service is completed, you can sell it to multiple customers.
