Startoholics connected with Anikhet Jain, CEO of Dialstreet and here’s an excerpt from the interview.

How involved are you with fundraising?

Funding has turned out to be one of our most crucial needs at the moment. We are currently in talks with a few VCs hoping to raise a few funds that we could make very good use of. The funds that we raise would predominantly be used to ramp up on our infrastructure, start branches across locations that would help us provide phenomenally low call rates for our customers and for talent acquisition to further strengthen our technology and sales forces.

What do you wish you’d known when you became CEO?

Thankfully there wasn’t anything in particular that took me by surprise. There was a certain level of preparedness and a few things that I had anticipated before being a CEO. The only thing that was uncertain was the occurrence of what I had anticipated earlier. Probably knowing that in advance would have indeed made it a lot easier.

What are you most excited about at the moment?

The successful launch of Dialstreet is what I’m most excited about. Plus the line-ups of enhancements and added features that we plan on releasing in the future versions of Dialstreet are also something that I’m really looking forward to.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?

One of the hurdles would definitely be the number of regulations that govern the telecommunication industry in India. Easing off on these regulations a little by TRAI would open the doors for the addition of a lot of functionality and enhancements to cloud telephony and telecom solutions that would only end up benefiting our users and making their lives a whole lot easier.

Has your product got the feedback and growth you expected since launch?

The feedback, no matter how small or big, has proved to be a learning curve for us. Right from the launch till where we are today, we have taken every bit of input and feedback from our users to work on enhancing and fuelling the research and development of the future versions of Dialstreet.

How do you differentiate from your competitors?

Being a one-of-its-kind product in the market has the main benefit of not having any key competitors. If you take a look at it, all the cloud telephony providers in the country have been concentrating only on providing telephony services. This makes us pioneers in what we do and everything that we add will end up being an industry first.

Have you had any failures and what did you learn from them?

We did face a few ups and downs, especially while developing Dialstreet. But the main lesson that we learnt from whatever we faced was that there is always a solution to any problem if approached in the right manner. The failures that we encountered only made us more knowledgeable about negating the occurrences of such failures in the future.

Where do you see Dialstreet after 5 years?

It would be lovely if we could predict or prophesise about the future, wouldn’t it? For now, we know that we have something magical in our hands, we are dedicated towards building on Dialstreet further to make it even more amazing and we, indeed, hope that our present and future customers would be able to reap the benefits of using Dialstreet. More success is surely on its way.

Do you have any tie-ups?

Our first major tie-up, one that we are very proud of, is our integration with Freshdesk, a social helpdesk system. With the Dialstreet-Freshdesk integration, any organization could set up a robust support helpdesk system with the advantage of calls and SMS and the ability to track, record, route and manage your calls effectively.

What more do you wish to include to take Dialstreet to the next level?

We are working on including a module that we call “List Management”. Using List Management, we help companies using Dialstreet list themselves in over 200 marketplaces such as Justdial, Ask Laila, etc. across the country using their Dialstreet number. This way, companies can attract and generate leads with all their calls coming being routed to a single Dialstreet phone number. We are pretty sure that this handy feature would do a great deal in generating leads for the companies using Dialstreet.

Which entrepreneurs do you most admire?

Girish Mathrubootham, Sachin Bansal and Phanindra Sama, to name a few, are the entrepreneurs who I admire the most. The success stories of Freshdesk, Flipkart and RedBus, respectively, are truly inspirational. The level of dedication that they had to stick to their business idea and work hard till it succeeded is quite motivating.

What one piece of advice would you give to soon-to-be startup founders?

The key to success lies in getting your basics right. If you are absolutely sure of your business idea and have worked hard on making a concrete foundation for it, then success is just round the corner for you.
