Tell us a bit about your background and the path that ultimately led you towards Neuros.

I am a medical doctor by profession, a recent medical graduate actually. But I always had a thing for internet technology. During med school, I ran a designing & development company, the experience of which actually played a very big role in the making of Neuros. Being close to computers and innovations, and medical studies, I always thought it would be cool to collaborate these both. My friend Ravi, who is a co-founder of Neuros, was the one I approached with the idea of creating a unique system for medical studies. His suggestion to add a social portal to it, made the concept much better and thus so was the inception of Neuros. 

How long did it take to put together Neuros?

The inception of Neuros was on Sept 15 2011, we then started working on the development and planning of the startup and launched a Beta website somewhere in April 2012. The official website with features was launched during a medical event in April 2013.

Has Neuros got the feedback and growth you expected since launch?

Yes! The response and feedback has been positive. A bunch of newspapers and startup blogs have featured us and now we even have a Wikipedia page. So we definitely think we are heading in the right direction.

What is the biggest hurdle you have faced or are still facing?

Advertising. As Neuros  is a bootstrapped startup, resources are limited. Though most of the visitors come by word of mouth and through search engine, advertising plays a vital role and probably that’s the biggest hurdle we are facing right now.

How involved are you with fundraising?

Like I said, we have bootstrapped, so whatever Ravi and I are making from our other business; we invest a chunk of it here. But now we are considering getting an angel investor.

Do you have an Android app/ iPhone app of Neuros?

Yup! We recently launched an android app, and one day after the launch there were more than 100 downloads taking place. Next in line is Windows app and then the iPhone app.

What are your plans for promoting Neuros?

Social marketing, online advertising, releasing our own student edition magazine that would be integrated with our social network and college to college promotion.

Do you have any tie-ups?

We have a few offers from US based companies, still evaluating benefits.

How have you sustained your business? What is your revenue model?

Right now it’s just through ad generated income. But we have plans for subscription to premium content, and onetime payment for premium content.

What do you think is the future of Technology in Medical field?

There is a huge scope. A lot can be achieved through technology for the medical community. I believe not just the medical professionals but even patients can, to a large extent benefit from it. And we are researching every aspect of this, to integrate that into our startup.

Do you have any new features in the pipeline?

Right now the website is just 20% of our whole vision. There are a lot of features we have chalked out, but the next in line is Qbank and testing module. We will host a large number of Qbanks for various medical exams and online tests. We are also planning to provide options for medical colleges and professors to host their private tests for their students.

Where do you see Neuros after 5 years?

I see Neuros as the fastest growing, most innovative and professional social network for medical professionals around the world. If all goes as planned, these words would seem insufficient to describe Neuros, God willing. 

What one piece of advice would you give to soon to be startup founders?

If you have an idea and you think it will work, do it. Success and failures are a part of life. But unless you have tried it out, you wouldn’t know. It is better to have failed, than never to have tried at all.
