Listopen has been started by Hitesh Sharma, Prashant Singh and Amit Mehta. Hitesh and Amit met in a B-school. Amit completed his MBA while Hitesh dropped out and joined an ecommerce start-up. After a few years they again came back together to start Listopten. The idea struck their minds when the three were sitting back at home and searching for best android phones and landed on some e-commerce and review sites but these sites could not help them to pick the best amongst all available options. Therefore they thought there should be a site which only shows public generated results of Top 10 items in all categories so that they don’t get lost in 5000+ results coming out of Google search.

In an interview with Hitesh, here’s what we learnt more about Listopen:

How is Listopten different from other sites of the same domain?

We are the only portal where users can come and check the Top 10 favourite things shared by other users and their favourite online stores and also share opinions on the list and create their versions of the list.

We are not selling directly but helping users to make better choices online and also generate free business to the online stores.

How are you promoting Listopen?

We are currently getting traffic via word of mouth and Google. There is a huge shift in how people search on Google and the keywords used by them. These days Google quickly analyses the entire questions and complex queries and returns relevant answers as opposed to looking at queries on a keyword-by-keyword basis.

Eg- huge chunk of people search for Top 10 mobile brands or Best mobile brands instead of just typing mobile brands on Google. People want to see the best 10 results instead of getting lost in the results.

At Listopten, you get only the best 10 of everything. So the search time reduces considerably.

How much money and time did you invest in your startup?

Currently we are self-funded and have invested more than 10 Lakhs so far including opportunity costs and looking for angel investors who can support us to build a long term sustainable product.

What’s your future plan?

We are currently focusing on building product and providing traffic to our e-commerce clients like carnation.in, snapdeal.com, infibeam.com etc. and providing an engaging platform to the users.

What’s Listopen’s success mantra?

Our team is purely dedicated to work 16-18 hours in a day and we consistently work hard to help people make better choices online. For us our highly passionate team with a clear vision and common objective is the biggest strength.

What message would you like to give to upcoming entrepreneurs?

Feel a problem and without thinking much jump into it and improve with time and establish your product.  Never try to be Facebook or Pintrest on the first day of launch itself.
