The site was launched in the year 2011 and was previously known as Tyche’d but in July 2012, it released its alpha version and rebranded to Wishberg. The initial model lacked adoption and when they spoke to users they got a productive feedback where they discovered that people were having difficulty in retaining the name and couldn’t pronounce it properly. Hence they wanted to opt for a much simple name that even reflected the purpose of the social product discovery site.

Wishberg was founded by Pravin Jadhav & Kulin Shah. Pravin looks after the Product, Design, Marketing and Technology. He has about 10 years of experience in the field of internet and mobile products. Before Wishberg, he was the Head of Product & Marketing at Ohana Media and Head of Product for eCommerce & Mobile at Rediff. Kulin looks after Content, Alliances, Finances and Operations. Before Wishberg he was a Senior Investment Manager at Reliance Venture Capital and has also led initiatives in Product Marketing & Alliances at Idea Cellular.

The main aim of Wishberg has remained the same with a few additions like social integration among users, one click registration, real time activity streaming on users’ homepage among other features and making the portal more social. It also has a recommendation engine for first time users that suggests them products based either on their social graph, location or both. Its products listings are from 200 cities across 12 countries including India, Canada, Australia, UK, USA, Malaysia, Indonesia among others.

Wishberg discovers users with similar purchase intents and those who have already fulfilled that intent to bring up specific reviews that can be used by someone who is about to or wishes to buy something.

Wishberg had come up with a Hitler parody video where Hitler realises that he is the last one to register on Wishberg. The video was released 3 days after the public beta, so people knew of Wishberg’s public launch and the context too. The original video is in German but the text copy is synced with the words Hitler says. The video went viral on YouTube and was big hit on Twitter. Kunal came up with the idea of a parody video when he was surfing some videos on YouTube and came across Hitler Parody videos. He then decided to do something crazy like a parody video and surprised his team the next day by showing them a sample video.

Wishberg is certainly a different concept and has managed to break through the clutter and come up with a unique platform where all a person needs to do is share his purchase intents so that he can find some impartial reviews that help him to make a wise choice. The company currently focuses on simplifying the product, improving the engagement and distribution.
