The Social Media juggernaut has launched a new feature that lets you go down the memory lane and resurface old photos, status updates and other things you posted on Facebook. After subscribing to the service, the blasts from the past will be present on your news feed and you can also edit and delete old posts, or decide to share your memories with friends.

According to Facebook, “On This Day shows content from this date in the past. For example, you might see past status updates, photos, posts from friends and other things you’ve shared or been tagged in – from one year ago, two years ago, and so on. Only you will see this content unless you decide to share it with your friends.”

Since the last few years, Facebook has become an integral part of our lives. From our sombre moments to special ones, we have never failed to keep our life happenings updated on the platform. With On This Day, the platform gives us a chance to look back at some memories we shared and relive those moments!

Facebook has been working on this feature since the last 2 years. It is almost identical to Timehop, a service that lets you sign in with your social networks and then gives you a daily digest of the things you have posted across those networks in the past years. Timehop describes itself as ‘a daily nostalgia kick that will quickly become the highlight of your day.’ The major difference between Timehop and On This Day is that Timehop collates the posts made not just on Facebook but also on other social platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Flickr and Foursquare.

Facebook is taking some precautions and making sure its algorithm filters out all the unpleasant memories. The new service is rolling out to users in stages, so not everyone will be able to see it yet. It will soon be available globally on web and mobile.

Vikram quit his high paying job at a media firm to start his own social media agency. Vandana decided to stop following the conventional methods of teaching and develop an up to date software to enhance the quality of education. Mohit wanted to convert his passion for food into his profession and started his own fast food joint by quitting his monotonous bank job.

There are innumerous stories out there that talk about people who quit their lucrative or boring jobs to start their own venture. Stories that fill us with a sudden burst of hope and inspire us to dream bigger! Stories that instigate us to opt for a divergent path and go beyond the clichéd career options. We encounter so many people on a daily basis who are dissatisfied with their modus vivendi and wish to do something different that not only makes them feel special but also provides them with a sense of contentment that a regular 9-5 job usually fails to provide. The feeling of creating something on your own from scratch, putting in hours for its growth and slogging for months to sustain it is certainly priceless!

But like it is said, to achieve something great, you must sacrifice something great. Does that mean you should give up on your day job so that you could give your 100% focus on your dream? There is nothing wrong in being dissatisfied with desk jobs and corporate gigs and thinking of other options. You certainly don’t want to look back on missed opportunities with a sense of regret. But be sure to not chase your dreams in a way that leaves a trail of ruin behind you. Make sure you ponder your specific situation before taking the plunge and doing anything under the pretext of “chasing your dream.”

Be Responsible

If you have a family that subsists on your paycheck, you can’t just simply ignore their needs and turn a blind eye to everything to follow your passion. Many working individuals quit their jobs without a backup plan and make things topsy-turvy for their loved ones. Rather than making a hasty decision, take your time to figure out whether you can manage your employment and your dreams at the same time.

If you are really serious about your dream project then you will likely do it under whatever circumstances you are currently in. You’ll make it work either by doing it outside of work hours and replacing your weekend plans with your dream plans. No matter what, you’ll make sure you put in extra amount of efforts to make it work!

Out there, you’ll find people who-

-Have a full time job yet manage to work on their novels after office hours by staying up late and working on weekends

-Are stay at home mothers who manage their household chores (which include cooking, washing, taking care of their children, teaching them, shopping) as well as their business resplendently

-Are full time students who use their holidays and summer vacations to build their products rather than enjoying at the beach!

Go For A Transition Process Instead

Most of the people who were dead serious about their business and were adamant on turning their dreams into reality first did it while keeping their day jobs. They saw managing their employment and dream project as a transition process. In the initial stage, you could create momentum and position yourself well for the time when you might actually take that leap of faith and give up your employment to chase your dreams. Until then, you could see your day job and paycheck as the resources to bootstrap your new venture in the days to come.

Think of your dream project as your child. You do not neglect your child’s growth while you are working, do you? Instead, you manage to get the time to nurture your child with love and care.

Starting up your own business requires unwavering determination that isn’t swayed by what others have to say. It also involves huge risks. So, if you are serious, start taking these risks from now on and start living like an entrepreneur from this moment by managing your time wisely to yield phenomenal results!

Share your thoughts on what you think about the idea of quitting jobs to chase dreams!

Ever faced video conference problems either due to low bandwidth or dearth of time to download softwares? Tringgr brings you a solution that only needs Chrome and uses a service that runs on the low bandwidth. Video conferences play an imperative role in today’s fast paced lives. With so many new amazing ideas engendering fresh startups, the evident revolution taking place in the education sector that demands for more up to date methodologies of imparting knowledge and companies vying for the attention of customers, people are always scrounging for ways that could give them a competitive edge or let them work more productively. Tringgr tries to solve the communication problem by providing first hand browser experience by working on really low bandwidth fulfilling all instant conference needs and that is exactly what makes it unique.

tringgr

“I was bitten by a startup bug in my early professional career. The initial idea came from closely looking at the online transactional businesses which has boomed in the past few years and the growth rate has been phenomenal. This made me think about the next step for these transactional online businesses and I thought it would be becoming more interactive with the customers and that’s where the idea was born. After doing a bit of market research, I found there is a lot we can do with video conferencing. There is where Tringgr was born and we think to disrupt conference and customer engagement market with Tringgr’s offerings.” added Sushant Pandey, the founder of Tringgr.

Sushant Pandey

The Noida based startup has a team of 5 members that works towards providing video conferences/chats, audio-only conferences/chats, group/private text chats and file transfers. Tringgr has also tied up with companies in the education technology space to enhance the quality of education by allowing students to collaborate, talk, chat, vote and solve papers together. Apart from that, they also have associations with travel websites that help you connect with a travel consultant and hotel representative to help plan your itinerary and show the property. “We believe that a product like Tringgr helps various online business to cater their interaction needs like Live Tutoring, Online Doctors, Live Product display for e-commerce, online Customer desk, Matrimony meeting points, etc.” said Sushant.

Tringgr Offerings Include-

-Tringgr.com – Free Public Platform for hosting video conferences, with voice calling and file transfer feature.

-TringgrEngage– First of its kind solution in India

Tringgr Engage is a real time customer engagement chat box solution that helps the consumer to grow sales and serves their website visitors in a better way, thus help them in elevating the customer experience via Video, Voice and Chat support with detailed analytics about customer.

-Tringgr Connect– white labeled Tringgr for Enterprise internal/external communication platform. It will have options like file sharing, screen sharing with voice and video communication.

-Tringgr CDN –This real time CDN network combined with a few Tringgr CDNs will not only help in quick content delivery but also decrease websites bandwidth consumption to 60-70% resulting in huge CDN cost savings.

The startup has served more than 4500 conferences in just 6 months and is currently running a few pilot projects. However, initial corporate sales have been tough because of the presence of various major players but they are still finding good value addition in case of low bandwidth requirements. Tringgr is planning on coming up with a mobile app soon through which users would be able to call between mobile, browser, VOIP and PSTN phones (mobile and landline) at a really low cost or even free of charge.

When asked what piece of advice Sushant would like to give to other enthusiastic budding entrepreneurs, this is what he had to say – “Keep trying and experimenting as the best entrepreneurs around the world have failed in their early ventures or during the course. It’s the learning that counts and it’s their ability to still try something new after failing that has made them successful. Remember, your journey itself has started with a different experiment and you have chosen a different path so why get afraid NOW?

There are times when we find something really interesting to work but our thought process negates it because of the fear that probably this is much bigger than my potential or capability and we tend to drop the idea. NEVER DO THAT! This is where a start-up either starts or stops. Follow your heart and give it your full for a decent time. The least you can get is some valuable experience which will pay off really well later and in the best case, you will have the opportunity to live your dream.”

Wishing Sushant and team Tringgr all the very best in their endeavour! 🙂

Online document creation and collaboration software Bookpad has been acquired by Yahoo which makes it the first Indian tech startup to be bought by the U.S. giant. Though Yahoo didn’t disclose the purchase price, two people with direct knowledge of the development said it paid around Rs 50 crore ($8.3 million) for Bookpad.

Bookpad are the makers of Docspad, a service aimed at developers looking to add document viewing, annotations and editing features within their own applications. Just like Google Docs, it helps customers to create and format text documents online and also collaborate with other people in real time. But apart from that, it is also designed in a way that lets enterprises modify it as per their needs and can also be used for applicant-tracking systems, conferencing solutions, learning management solutions, and more. The startup has shown a phenomenal growth and in just a period of one year has jumped from the stage of creation to acquisition.

Bookpad was started last year by IIT Guwahati alumni Aditya Bandi, Niketh Sabbineni and Ashwik Reddy who came together to find a way through which documents could be edited or annotated which are shared on the cloud in real time. The startup was also backed by NASSCOM’s 10,000 Startups initiative and Microsoft Ventures.

Other juggernauts such as Autodesk and Dropbox were also vying for the acquisition of the Bangalore based startup. The Bookpad team will be soon moving to Silicon Valley. Bookpad has been competing against biggies like Google and Crocodoc in document viewing and will now help Yahoo to strengthen its free email service Yahoo mail.

Are you blindly following the herd? Or are you embarking on the journey of fulfilling your dreams and gratifying your burning passion? Are you sure the course you have taken up is not due to societal pressure? Or are you confident that the path you’ve chosen is the apt one to reach your ultimate destination?

It’s time to stop cramming for a while and ponder over your decisions. It’s time to stop being victims of pointless rat race and start being thinkers. It’s time to stop studying mindlessly and start asking yourself what you breathe for!
