Initially they also provided personal services such as marriage registrations, wills etc. Then they started thinking about changing the business model from one where EasyLaw itself provided the services by providing the platform for clients to meet and evaluate such experts. This was because of the fact that they were unable to expand into litigation related services due to prevalent regulations and they did not even have a pan India presence of professionals. Further, a lot of legal services entail some sort of interaction with government departments and due to this they were unable to standardize the services being offered to a degree where they could benefit from economies of scale.

The team has recently launched the new EasyLaw.in platform in December 2013. The new platform took them about 9 months from concept to deployment.

The legal services industry is extremely extensive and there aren’t any direct competitors as such. There are many websites that provide specific services in specific regions. Further, there are many blogs, forums, some Q&A websites and even a few where you can submit your requirements to receive quotations from a panel. However, there are no truly transparent websites that combine all these features and then compile individual Experts on-platform interactions in an un-biased public profile to enable users and clients to identify the expert and professional best suited for their needs.

“Most websites use a combination of Organic, Social and Advertisement Campaigns to get traffic. Since we are now a platform, we need to first approach professionals to register and build their profile and then start marketing to people who require these services. This is, unfortunately, a bit of a chicken and egg problem. Experts want to register and build their profiles only if they see value and users will only post projects if they see a quality database of registered Experts. To address this issue (to a certain degree) we have been calling certain experts to explain the model to them and to communicate that by contributing content that is original and helpful, they can get users organically from search engines to land on their content page and contact them directly via the website. Further, this also builds their skills and these experts get notified whenever there is a question or project that has been posted that matches their locations and skills.” says Ridhish Talwar, Director, EasyLaw.in
